Songkran On Silom Rd Was A Blast

If you are gullible and believe all the bs and clickbait headlines churned out by some English language news websites here in Thailand you’d have gone to Silom or Khaosan Road on Thursday expecting sombre Songkran celebrations.

That couldn’t have been further from the truth.

I took the family to SIlom Road at 1pm to let them sample their first Songkran and it was wet and wild just as you’d expect it to be. There was nothing tame about it.

Sure there was no booze, no powder, no birds flashing their tattas, no big sound systems cranked to the max deafening anyone within 300m but none of those bans put a dampener on the party.

It was mobbed and the crowd were there to have a good time and that’s exactly what they did.

And no one was complaining… well, there was one.

The only tosser I saw moaning was a German bloke in his 60’s walking around with an umbrella spouting off at anyone who sprayed him. What this bellend was doing in the middle of Silom during the first day of Songkran is anybody’s guess.

There’s always one.

As soon as the six of us stepped on to the street from the BTS it was nuts. The troops were armed with an array of water guns and they had a blast.

I’m not a big fan of Songkran but it was a family day out so I made the most of it. Mind you, I think I was the only person on that street who didn’t have a water gun.

I just walked up and down looking for water refilling “stations” – a few folks with big barrels or bins of water – handing over 10 baht a pop for a refill.

After two laps I was done, as were four others but one of my nephews was ready to go all the way until 8pm… there’s always tomorrow kiddo.
