Photo Special: City Officials Failing To Clear Rogue Traders
Despite around two dozen tessakit officers manning the footpaths of lower Sukhumvit morning, noon and night, some sellers aren’t giving up easily, especially those selling sex enhancement pills and other illegal goods.
Some vendors are flouting the rules by hanging their merchandise on walls so they are not physically blocking the footpath while others are using the steps to shops and side sois to avoid being told to move on.
My next point is not about the old dear pictured below flogging flowers, rather the guys who look like gangsters with their fake t-shirts, knives, stun guns, and dodgy DVDs on show for sale.
These are the very people who should be getting fined / arrested / moved on but are the ones sticking it to the city officials tasked with clearing the footpaths because by the rule book, they aren’t on the pavement and aren’t technically breaking the rules, or are they?
Surely in the bylaws it must mention and account for this type of activity. Or do they get a pass because it’s not city buildings they are using to place their tables and hang their shirts or maybe someone, somewhere has a stake in said stalls?
